C
Citric Acid
INCI:
Citric Acid
Function in our formulas:
pH Adjuster
Where does it come from?
Citric Acid is derived from vegetable/natural sources like corn starch through bio fermentation of glucose.
What is it?
Citric Acid is used to adjust the pH of formulas down so they become more acidic. If you weren't paying attention in Chem class, pH is measured around the neutral point of 7. Above 7 = basic/alkaline, below 7 = acidic. Skin naturally sits around 5.5 and pure water sits at 7.
How do we use it?
Citric Acid is usually used at the end of the formulation process to adjust the final pH of the formula down. The pH is adjusted to suit the ingredients and function of the product.
