LISTENING, LEARNING, & DECIDING
NATURAL VS SYNTHETIC
‘Natural’ can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different companies. Neither is better or worse than the other at a glance - even when it comes to sustainability.
We lean heavily towards naturally derived, renewably sourced ingredients.
We try to use less ingredients that are derived from petrochemicals (oil). But, sometimes it doesn’t make sense to avoid them.
Renewable plant sources usually make more sense for the planet. But not always.
Sometimes the environmental impact (usually deforestation) of producing a raw material may be so large, that it is better for the planet to just produce it synthetically to be ‘nature identical’.
It’s a complex issue and one that we will continue to learn, improve, and iterate on forever. And we hope humanity does too.

Your August bottle (and your other cosmetics) can be recycled as is by most local councils in Australia, but you should check your local first.
Most councils don’t need the lid separated from the bottle, but its generally helpful to separate the lid and remove any remaining ingredients.
The more work you do to sort your recycling, the more chance it will actually be recycled.
If you find your council can’t recycle plastic pump lids, check out Terracycle.
Everything else is pretty simple! Cue a gorgeous FSC cardboard box, planet friendly ink, and recycled paper inserts.
